      Beatriz and I were discussing a patient who stated she was feeling angry in the last session. However the patient was describing sensations of nausea and tightness in her throat. Those don’t sound like anger sensations. I am curious. What do you make of this?

      If underneath anger is fear or powerlessness or both – which is certainly my experience – perhaps whatever is being activated (nausea/tight throat) is very scary for the client. They may not even be aware that they are afraid or that fear triggers anger for them. In many families, anger is much more acceptable than fear. Zandra Zimmerman
