Neurophysiopsychotherapy™ is our method of psychotherapy
CIMBS is our therapeutic approach the overarching therapeutic paradigm.
What does ‘neurophysiopsychotherapy™ mean?
Neuro– A] CIMBS therapists are consciously, constantly and explicitly working directly with the functioning of different neural networks and Brain Systems within the patient’s Nervous system in the transpiring present moment.
B] The ability of the mind to change the structure of the brain is called Neuroplasticity.. Our therapeutic approaches are carefully designed to utilize different capacities of the nervous system to change the structure of the brain [Neuroplasticity.].
C] Our therapeutic process utilizes specific interventions to activate Neurotransmitters to speed the therapy, to facilitate long-term learning, to reduce unconscious anxiety, and access unconscious processing. [e.g. oxytocin effect, serotonin effect, dopamine effect, etc.]
Physio– A] Refers to the fact that one of our therapeutic perspectives is Psychophysiology. In our therapeutic approach we are constantly providing our patients with new physical [visceral] experiences and novel need-satisfying experiences in the present moment. We are interrupting automatic behavioral patterns and neural networks. Each of these experiences will give rise to visible Psychophysiological phenomena. These psychophysiological phenomena alert us to new activations, change opportunities, and evidence of changes that are occurring in the patient’s nervous system at the Present Moment. These psychophysiological phenomena provide the therapist with the visible evidence of the impact of the therapeutic interventions that are being utilized. The CIMBS therapist often intervenes when there is a Psychophysiological shift to integrate both consciously and unconsciously the new experiences that are unfolding in the patient’s nervous system at that Present Moment.
B] Physical therapy or Physio-therapy is a form of treatment in which the physiotherapist seeks to bring back strength, flexibility, and mobility to the body after the patient has suffered some injury. In CIMBS, the therapist provides an analogous experience to physical therapy/ Physio-therapy. The CIMBS-physio-therapist actively moves the patient’s nervous system in ways that the patient cannot do on their own in an analogous way in which the physiotherapist moves the shoulder after an injury. We give them exercises to do on their own between sessions so that the patient can utilize the the new and differentiated brain systems practicing new ways of processing information and energy. The CIMBS therapist is a physio-therapist for the mind and the brain. They need lots of repetition. Why?, because these new neural pathways need to be reactivated repeatedly to strengthen it, and to ultimately myelinate those neurons that are part of those new circuits.
Psycho- Psychotherapy and psychology have many meanings in different contexts and as used by different people.
A] Psychological Brain Systems The CIMBS™ therapist is paying attention to psychological brain systems just as the physical or physio-therapist pays attention to coordination, musculature or skeletal systems in their therapeutic approach. The primary psychological brain systems we work with are Core Consciousness, Motivational, Relational, Emotional/Somatic awareness, Danger/Fear, and Belonging Brain Systems. We seek to provide new learning experiences in which the psychological brain systems become more fully differentiated, with increased capacities, and ultimately Integrated in a more flexible and complex way to provide unique and adaptive functioning for this person.
B] Meeting the Psychological needs of the patient in an ongoing way throughout the session. Constantly meeting the Psychological Needs for orientation, mastery, Attachment, Self-Esteem enhancement, etc. Remoralizing the patient.
Therapy is the treatment the therapist provides:
A] Stabilizing relationship in the context of the stress of new learning, off-balance The CIMBS therapist is very actively involved with each patient. The relationship is a central part of the therapy that the CIMBS therapist provides. This relationship provides another nervous system to help keep the patient’s nervous system balanced.
B] Tailor-made therapy: Because of the careful attention to the unique nature of this patient’s nervous system’s functioning, CIMBS therapy is tailor-made to that specific patient at this specific moment.
C] Interrupting automatic patterns. The CIMBS therapist also uses the relationship to interrupt automatic patterns in the patient’s nervous system.
D] providing the repetition and reinforcement to facilitate long term learning. This repetition and reinforcement will help myelinate the neural networks so that they become faster and more automatic.
